At a public middle school, we are blessed with diversity. We have children and adults from all walks of life coming together for brief seasons to live and work together. Each individual brings their own unique experiences, skills, passions to the community,as well as their trauma, pain and insecurities. For some of our children and adults, a love for soccer and a chance to play is the highlight of their day. Over the last two years, we have been blessed to have the concepts and the people behind Total Soccer Development helping to mold and craft that experience for our school community. Middle school is a time of change, but this program has brought out the best in our young people, no matter their role in the program. Total Development is more than a brand name, it is a commitment to every part of the person. Not just the player or coach, but the person. This program meets the person where they are and pushes them to strengthen the gifts they have while developing their targeted areas of growth. I have personally witnessed the program positively impact multiple coaches and entire teams of students. Their teachers and families notice the difference, and we have not seen the backslide at the end of our seasons in the classroom and in the community. Our kids have developed a common vocabulary, not just for skill on the pitch, but for skills in life, and I as an athlete director can't ask for anything more.
